On September 11th 2008 Director, Susan Morissette visits the Pentagon n Washington D.C. for the dedication of the Pentagon Memorial.

Read Susan's Account of the Dedication

Honored, she attended with the Fort Myers Fire Department. Dennis Young and Alan Wallace (Retired) both of Fort Myers are pictured. Both firefighters were stationed outside of the Pentagon on 9/11.

The dedication was a moving tribute and memorial to those lost on 9/11 at the Pentagon. Speakers included President George W. Bush and former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfield.

The visit to the Pentagon gave Susan opportunity to meet the Cruz family and others. Including the stone artist for the memorial.

It also gave way to familiar faces like our dear friend, Vince Patton who worked diligently in the aftermath of 9/11.

April 28-30, 2007 -- Annual Directors' Conference
Heart of America Quilt Directors gathered for our Directors meeting in Washington DC. One of the highlights of our trip was a visit to our friend, Alan Wallace’s Home Fire Department in Ft. Myers. This is the fire dept just up the hill from the Pentagon. Alan was in Ohio, but the Firefighters at the station where wonderful and has agreed to add a panel as part of their history on 9/11.

Annual Northern Virginia Rescue Challenge

When returning to the hotel after our visit, Director Mike made the foolish mistake of pointing out to Susan that the hotel seemed to be taken over by Firefighters. Leaping from her chair, she introduced herself and thanked them for their hard work in keeping our communities safe. After a few more moments she returned to tell Director Mike that they needed a PowerPoint presentation for the following morning when she spoke at their event, the Annual Northern Virginia Rescue Challenge. Her few minutes of conversation had presented HoAQ with another opportunity to thank those that serve our country as firefighters.
