"One day, the life we live, will be a history lesson to the children." We are uniting our country and educating our children on working together to better their country and their world. Our success depends on: Great people like YOU Donations A continued show of unity		Staying in Touch I hope this Newsletter Finds you all well. Here in Maine, the buds are just beginning to turn the trees a light shade of green as the air warms at a slow pace. For 3 ½ years, my great delemia lies in writing a short note about this great county for the newsletter. This note lies in the same field. This past month, I traveled to Washington D.C. to meet with a few wonderful people to discuss out 2006 event. During those travels, I met with Director Tamera and Jean. We visited the Capital and spent a few hours in the midst of our Countries history, at the Center of D.C.. I also met with our Security Advisor, Don to discuss our event. Each of these people I awarded a Presidential Service Award for the time and effort they have donated to our organization. With great pride, I can tell you we have the best and brightest! As an awarding organization of the Presidential Service Award, I urge you to visit their site and log the hours you volunteer. It would be an honor to be able to present you all with this wonderful award. For more information- http://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov/ As the other Directors and I met at my hotel, the lobby filled with uniforms. Men and women that protect our country with their lives. While I was there, I was blessed to meet many of them. Some have even become so excited about the quilt that they too are now a part of this unity. One note I received after my return from the trip, brought tears to my eyes. Most of you know how the amazement of our country touches my very soul, but this letter, what was written, it was to me, but as you all know, it was to you all that have worked so hard on this- What you do is huge. This country has survived and flourished because many have come together behind rally cries like "Remember the Alamo" and "Remember Pearl Harbor." Both of which brought a nation together to defeat a common enemy. The cry, "Remember 9/11" cannot fall on deaf ears. It is the most significant of the three. In those previous wars, the rallying cries brought people together to fight a known enemy with identifiable borders. "Remember 9/11" is different. Our enemy has no borders, marches behind no flag, respects no conventions of war. Our enemy is ruthless and barbaric and strikes at the very heart of our greatness, "Freedom and Democracy." The lessons of Vietnam have taught us that we can lose a war; not because of a lack of strength within our fighting forces, but because of a lack of strength and conviction among our people. It is people like you who keep the cry, "Remember 9/11", alive who will make it possible for us to sustain and win the war on terror. If the people of this great nation lose their faith and conviction in our ability to win, we will lose. Many of us wear the cloth of our nation in the form of a military uniform. Others wear that cloth in the conduct of their lives by supporting and defending the ideals that have made this country great. The scope of your support is immeasurable. You are truly a hero for this nation. I am proud to know you and I salute you. So you see why I exclaim that I am the most blessed person in the world. I am fortunate to work with the cream of the crop! We will spend most of this year raising funds for the care and upkeep of the quilt along with the funding it will take to make the DC event a great success. Our first fundraiser has been given to us by our advisor Don L. Rondeau. Mr. Rondeau has offered us a donation of $10 per book sold from our site. His book can be found on our website http://www.heartofamericaquilt.com/rondeau.htm I have challenged our advisors to help with fundraising and I know they will all jump forth to make this a great year. We are working on a special challenge for all of you. We are going to challenge each of you to help raise funds with contests thought the year. Our first Challenge is to our schools. We need schools to gain weight! You heard me. We are asking schools across the country to save change, gather change and see who weighs the most! The school who weighs in with the largest weighing bucket of change will win a Pizza Party! For more information on how you can take part, just email and we will get the information to you! Here are a few ways to help unite your community: Organize a public signing. Call your local town officials and ask them to sign a panel with your organization. Have an art contest and let the winner be the designer of your panel. Invite your neighbors to a gathering and all do a portion of the quilt. Collect food and clothes for your local shelter while you do a signing. Take a panel to the mall! Ask a local event if you can bring a panel and a table. Take a panel to work! Positions Available- Representative and volunteers- Washington D.C. area for our 2006 showing. We need a lot and need them now! This is looking to be our largest event to date and we need your help to make sure the Heart of America Quilt is presented to the best of our Nation from the best of our Nation! Grant writers- Work done via internet. Able to do in any area. International Affairs Director- We have been contacted by many organizations and schools from other countries. Needed is a volunteer able to organize their care. Will include direct contact with organizations and reporting to directors. Volunteers- the heart of our organization, the very people that make it work! We need volunteers in all states to help organize educational programs and giving holidays. Fundraisers- We need your help to raise the funds to make it all possible! The Heart of America Quilt is a small organization working to help teach the art of working together. We make Big impressions, but work on a very small budget. We need help raising funds to provide services and continue to spread our reach of the helping hand.
